Budget

Over the last 4 years our board has done a good job of being fiscally responsible and prioritizing our spending. I would be remiss if I did not thank our township staff and previous boards for their leadership on this.

The board of trustees has maintained a very healthy fund balance and will continue to do so in the coming years. We have developed a Capital Improvement Plan, which prioritizes projects for the future and allows us to see what monies are needed to be set aside. This will help the township maintain a healthy financial position.

Parks and Recreation

On this issue, I see a lot of opportunities in the next four years and it is very exciting. After our elected park commission went through the process of rewriting our 5 year parks and recreation plan, we have many potential grant opportunities and areas that we can expand and/or improve our park system.

As we are mainly a residential community, this is a great way for us to draw people to our community and show off the beautiful park system that we have. Many residents took a survey to provide their input for what they want to see and that will guide much of what we do. You can see a copy of this 5 year plan here: East China Township Parks and Recreation Plan

We just hired a new recreation coordinator and this will enable us to start holding programs again.

Overall, between the elected parks commission, the recreation committee and township staff, there is a lot to be optimistic about!

Infrastructure

This issue ties in with our budget and the Capital Improvement Plan, but it is an important distinction. Keeping up on preventative maintenance and ensuring that we keep an updated infrastructure has been and will continue to be a top priority of our township.

Clean Water

One of the most important aspects of the modern township and an expectation of our residents is fresh, clean water. In the last four years, the township replaced decades old water and sewer lines and moving forward this will continue to be a priority to keep on top of. Transparency

In my view, this is a very important subject. I believe in being very open, honest and transparent with the people we represent. From the Freedom of Information Act to the Open Meetings Act and even beyond those minimum requirements. Listening and being responsive to the people that we represent is a must. Overall, I think our meetings have been very responsive to concerns brought forth and our board has been very good at supporting free speech and ensuring all voices are heard. This is something that I will continue to strive for if re-elected.

Roads

There is always room for improvement here. The main roads in the township are in good shape. There are still side streets and some private roads that are not paved. This has been on my radar for the last four years and especially Bryson Lane as this is a township road. We are working to get grants and potentially matching funds. Roads that are currently paved are on a rotation list and the county road commission matches funds put up by the township. For further questions or issues with your specific road, please contact the township DPW or the County Road Commission.
